Steven A. Castleton is a Philanthropist and Internet Strategist who has consulted on numerous email outreach, fundraising, GOTV, consumer awareness, and crisis management internet campaigns for many Political, Fortune 500 and not-for profit organizations. Over the years, he has helped raise over $100 million through the internet.

Steve previously worked on building the email subscriber listing for the USO. Additionally, Castleton was also the Internet Fundraising Consultant for the USO, a service he performed on a pro bono basis. He has been credited for being instrumental in developing up the USO’s online “Wish Book” fundraising component.

In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 Terrorist attacks, Steve was the coordinator for New York Blood Services in the collection of relief supplies on Long Island. Castleton supervised the collection of donations which resulted in 40 truckloads of supplies being brought to “Ground Zero.” In the days immediately after the attacks, Steve went with the supplies and personally distributed some of them to the relief workers on the grounds of the World Trade Center.

Steve was also the Event Organizer and On-site Director for the Houston Texans/NFL 1st Annual Military Appreciation Day which will was held on October 25, 2009. His duties on that day included coordination of activities for Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush along with the “live satellite feeds” from Basra, Iraq and numerous other logistics including a “live” satellite salute to President George H.W. Bush from the deck of CVN 77. In 2010 Steve performed the same duties for the Houston Texan’s 2nd Annual Military Appreciation Day.

On September 11, 2011, Steve was the civilian member of the official team that flew American flags over Ground Zero. One of those very flags is now proudly displayed in the George W. Bush Presidential Archives at Southern Methodist University.

In 2014, 2015 and 2016 Steve was again the director of all on-field and satellite activities for the New York Mets 7th, 8th and 9th Annual Military Appreciation Days that benefited the USO. His duties on that day included coordination of activities for Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus. He also preformed these duties in 2016, which was his 17th Military Appreciation Day as event director. In previous years Steve has arranged the first pitch to be thrown “live” from locations including; Iraq, Afghanistan, the deck of an Aircraft Carrier and the International Space Station. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 Steve personally financed the attendance of over 250 Gold Star family members at the New York Mets annual military appreciation day.

Likewise, Steve coordinated the pre-game ceremonies and worldwide “live” satellite feeds for the Armed Forces at the 2013 Major League Baseball All Star Game and 2015 World Series Game 3 at Citi Field.

Steve also coordinated military “fly-over” tributes for MLB during spring training and all opening days in 2014.

Since its inception in 2003 through 2010, Steve had been the primary Internet Consultant for the annual Sean Hannity Freedom Concerts. Castleton has been previously recognized by Freedom Alliance and received their “Volunteer of the Year” Award.

Previously, Steve was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Army Recruiting Command for his work in support of the troops and their families.

In 2013, Steve arranged and coordinated a hockey game for the NHL between members of the U.S. Armed Forces and Slovakian Military at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. Before the game, both the U.S. national anthem and Slovakian national anthem played during colors ceremony.

Since 2013 Steve has been the event director for both the New York Jets Military and First Responders Appreciation Day’s where he has coordinated the on-field and Satellite activities in Kandahar, Afghanistan, for our armed forces. He again performed these duties in November 2014 along with again coordinating all movements for the SECNAV. For the opening kickoff, the football was “launched” off the catapult of CVN 75, The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier.

In 2014, 2015 and 2016 Steve coordinated all the pre-game and half-time activities for the New York Jets at both their Military and First Responder appreciation days. He will again be performing these duties in 2017.

Recently, Steve was honored when Major General Peter M. Aylward, U.S. Army (Retired) and Colonel Jose M. Ramos, U.S. Army (Retired) came to New York on behalf of the Department of Defense to present him with an award for being chosen as a Commemorative Partner for the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration. This Congressionally-mandated initiative was established to thank and honor Vietnam Veterans and their families.

This event was attended by over 3,000.

Steve’s latest project, which took one year to bring to fruition, occurred on Friday 26 August 2016 when at Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan the U.S. Army held the first “NY Sports Event” for the 10th MTN Battalion’s Organizational Day. Working with the 10th Mountain Division a “sports field” was carved out of the Afghanistan soil. Steve worked with the New York Jets to send custom designed jerseys in conjunction with Operation “Resolute Support”. He sent both green and white custom made New York Jets jerseys, flag football belts, official NFL footballs, coaching clipboards and more so the troops could play their own version of the Jets annual “Green and White Football game. Of note, after a week of some serious trash-talking -- the NCOs (non-commissioned officers) defeated the officers 36-7.

Steve also arranged for the New York Mets to send jersey tops and hats, and thanks to Freedom Alliance which donated all of the softball equipment, the day went as planned. Steve’s desire was to have a football game where the soldiers can have a day where they did not have to worry about defending our freedom, where they only had to worry about defending against the deep pass or a sweep to the outside. Mission Accomplished! To help our service members deployed in Afghanistan relax a little and enjoy a piece of home the following events also occurred: a 3 point shoot-out, volleyball, corn-hole tournament and a host of “Minute to Win” it games. A sports themed event wouldn’t be complete without a tailgate (Humvee-Gate) party. For which he arranged with the USO to provide food, fun and music for the service members to enjoy.

As a previous member of The Board of Directors of The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Castleton was instrumental in setting up the online fundraising component for donating.

Steve’s next project includes working with Long Island Cares, which was founded by Harry Chapin who died tragically in a car accident in 1981 just one year after founding Long Island’s first food bank. His legacy lives on in Long Island Cares, which has evolved into one of the region’s most comprehensive hunger assistance organizations serving thousands of individuals and families in need.
